Second track from my RPM 2010 album, "They Are Killers." The pounding drums at the beginning will eventually be over top of the synths that end "Nemesis," but I'll get to that later.
I thought I'd post my riff notebook as I'm working on writing this time. You know, get feedback, get told whether I'm blatantly ripping off a song, or find other alonetoners who want to work with me on them.
By no means the first song that popped out. It's just the first one I'm calling done beyond a remix. I think this will wind up leading in to a metal tune and will likely be shorter.
I'll have to check when I get home... I think this version has both guitars running through a Gratifier for distorted tone and an Ultrasonic for clean tone (in Guitar Rig 4). I got several suggestions to try doubling with both a high-gain and clean tone to get both clarity/definition and crunch.
Well, song 10 finally. A bit on the heavy side, some odd FX, strange vox, an Ibanez, The ever present harmonica, and some help from Illegal Alien Autopsy.
This was the first song I tracked for RPM. But, since my pen has run out of ink this month…
I tried to utilize the swelling of sound that can be created with a guitar to re-create the atmosphere around me (its been rainy all day, with some thunder in the background). This piece is semi improvisational, in that none of it was planned…
Nice! These remind me some of the sort of stuff I do as Asymptotic Taste. You're missing the ridiculous rotating speaker simulator at the end of your signal chain though ;) Seriously though, nice musical use of echo textures.
Once of City Steve and the Neon Lights. this was my first cover.
This song is done in the style of "the rake Song" by the decemberist. yeah. that just happened.
This is my most angry song.
Sodom And Gamorrah
(c)2010 Terry A. Beckett
How many times have we seen it?
Headline the evening news.
How many faces have been featured
While the tabloids expose the ruse?
How many sweet young things
Have tried…
So to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of your voice itself... but I've been listening to all of your songs and you've definitely got a great way with composing and writing melodies! About 5 minutes after listening to this song I found myself humming the chorus melody while walking down the hall.
This is probably the least electronic-sounding of everything that I did from RPM 2010, although it still heavily uses samples (either self-sampled or from Freesound).
That is me playing the harmonica, though. (No, really!)
If the song makes…
Written and recorded for the "Dictionary Challenge" on the RPM Challenge forums--take a word or phrase randomly chosen from the dictionary (mine was "piece work") and write a song (arguably) inspired by said word or phrase.
This track is off the third CD. The title is related to playing style which is centered around tappping. Recorded with my Huss and Dalton MJC in open D tuning
This track is off of the third CD. I had been kicking parts of it around for quite sometime and finally put together a completed piece. Still not sure why I came with the title but I'm sticking to it. Recorded with my Vincent De Francis OM-42…
This is pretty interesting, I wish I could put together acoustic songs like this too. Also, you seem to have gotten a much better mix/EQ than I've managed on acoustic songs :)
skin is a rock track, written and recorded by ourselves. we have a self built studio! where we meet every Friday night to write and record our own slant on rock music.
I enjoyed listening to all of your tracks, thanks for the comments on mine! Some of the songs remind me of some other artists, but the names generally escape me. This one had a sort of Fictionplane sound, I thought.
Comments on Synaptic Disturbance's stuff
Kind of like heavy surf guitar....i think this would work well in a movie chase scene.
dirty hammer-ons are good. ;)
Smooth clean recording and playing, really into this one!
Very cool SD, like the riffage.
Rockin' album! Riff-laden and crunchy!
Needs a title? How about "When The Cat Up The Tree Was Me." Totally cool jam!
GREAT vibe! Stunning!
Awesome, crunchy, solid!
Still needs work. Good Start. No lead Guitar. needs more depth. MEJ
Good Start, the one Guitar is good and the pinchs are good. Power cords are good. Needs a good lead guitar with the other. MEJ
great rpm!
this is a really great . reminds me of the "justice for all" era metallica. shortest straw.
very meaty groove. good guitar.
Ooh, creepy and effective! Love the rockin' change of mood.
a well built machine
guruvy
Nice riffage! Hope to hear more!
I'm using the Metal Foundry SDX VSTi, programmed in Fruity Loops.
good tool-esque ending too
came back for a second round of listens, what are you using for dums?

Nice spacey ambiance... yeah, definitely the sort of thing I would try to write as a lead-in to a crunchy metal tune!

Digging the groove, and the harmonic (surprisingly?) sounds right at home.
Volume pedal, volume knob, or delay pedal with a reverse? More neat textures.

Very ethereal... sounds like something that could have been on one of my Narada collections.
Love the mix and the bass tone on this one! And yes, definitely some influences from listening to The Hazards of Love ;p
Digging this one, great groove and vocals... and the production values on your tracks are top-notch!

Cool tune, stoner rock vibe
Interesting, and very very weird.
@guest (whoever you were): I'm flattered by a King Crimson comparison!
Alice in Chains comment seconded...great heavy groove and riffing here!
Great sound again, and a cool tune! Reminds me of stuff from my Narada Guitar compilations.

Nice groove, catchy!
I really like the attitude on the main riff on this track.

Nice scifi sort of sound, could definitely see this on a soundtrack.
Really enjoy the slinky feel and the bass tone on this one.
