Smiling in the first few seconds. This is the Gumbo I love. Lies and Tales is one of my absolute favourites RPM albums of all time, so the bar is pretty high - but this is toe tapping classic Gumbo awesomeness. Yep yip.
I live in faith that one day somebody will make a movie or tv show in the appropriate milieu to feature your music and it will receive the accolades that it deserves. You're such a great songwriter and your sound is pure and authentic.
A happy song about being left by your no-good spouse. There's a word for the attitude in this song but I can't think of it right now ...
this is now a tidied up version 18/3/09
An old time fiddle tune without the fiddle, or the tune, really, so the vocal has to carry it, and it has that lovely raw propulsion. Written and recorded in an hour.
Sassy Nation version!
Sister Savage and Mr Sandbags collaborated on the original of this wonderful heartbreaker of a song. I've been playing it on the guitar the last few days and it always seemed to come out with a grittier tone, so i asked…

This was an RPM track back in the day, and I've been playing it various ways to find a setting for it within the band repertoire. This doesn't sound much like our band would do it but it came out nicely, so i thought i'd share it.
Final version
Day 28
Anyone else still writing songs?
this is the result of trying to listen to too many mixes in one day. Sometimes it's just easier to record something else.

I'm not sure if this is rockabilly or late 40s jump R'n'B. Dance music though. I had fun with the lyrics and the backing vocals.

I wrote Dancing Vampires while reading the book "The Historian", which is a story of a man and his accomplices’ quest to find Dracula in present day Europe. I love history and all of its grit. This song speaks of primal human instincts. We are…
Inspired by a gorgeous recording on a wax cylinder by the composer, Tanburi Cemil Bey (1873-1916).
Performed on politiki lyra (classic kemençe), a small bowed fiddle from Istanbul.
Recorded at The Banff Centre, November 2008.
This is just a quick little track we did in celebration of reviving the recording computer. It is the opening track of a soundtrack disk for a friend who is running a Call of Cthulhu role playing game. He plans on playing it in the background…
I needed a place to host a work in progress where it wouldn't be obvious so you might have found a secret mix!!!
So that 4 minute song with the slide guitar that no-one listens to is gone ;-)
This started sounding quite Nick Caveish and at the same time I wanted to do something with Joe Meek; so it's a murderballad-variation on Johnny Remember me. There's stylophone and theremin in there. The theremin is quite effective at some points…
this is pretty ruff, but i don't see myself rerecording it anytime soon plus i can't find the lyrics and i'm too lazy to write them down ... anyways. i guess its just a bunch of thoughts about God, a little dramatic. enjoy!
OK it's the morning after the party at the China Quay, and our hero is waking up. What has happened?
Influenced by about 6 different doowop tunes (great for hangovers!)
I go back far enough to remember waiting for Ruben and the Jets to be issued on CD, but I think you might have me beat there, kirk. One of my favourite discs. I could get into some beefier backing vocals - that'd be fun.
Nice stereo guitaring, great rhythm.
Love it! Hot vocals, too, heheh, magic!
Who on earth does it remind me of?
Faved. and a fab solo - this has everything :~D
Fiddling around with an open G tuning and I found the chord that 'Prodigal Son' is based on (a Robert Wilkins tune from the 30s made famous by the Stones) so I had a play around with it, stopped for dinner and came back and wrote the lyrics…
@glu - true but it'll be a great party, someone might want to say it to you!
@Bethan - me too! Bring on the potions!
@kirk - it's tonight, and tomorrow til the money runs out or the ship sails!

Ha! Yes. My voice was shot on this one but I wanted the character to sound old so it felt appropriate :D Thanks for listening
Nice, vocals match the music perfect. :-}
Can I heart this song again? There. I did it.
Uh...what? Where? How?
Dude. You're such a good songwriter.
I love this track, something about the instruments movements really strikes a feeling. I cannot explain, but this song resonates.
You certainly have some lovely melodies on the guitar my fave so far although I like them all
Howling good riff
Nice playing just perfect for drinking coffee too

Back-at-ya sassy. Well done :-)
This is really cool !!!
Cool---- the rough guitar and vocals fit the mix nice :-)
I could listen to this all day!
This is a classic indeed. Love your vocals too. Thanks for listen8mg to a few of mine as well. I hope all is well in your world.
Nice! Love the style and the lyrics
oh yes!! This is fun....more Kazoo :)
wow....so beautiful! Great lyrics. Seriously fantastic. I'm an old Dylan fan and this hits the spot.
Still brilliant.

Funk it up!
That's just the kind of anthem we need round here!
loved the rhythm in your vocals - and they are a good contrast to the backing. the music is mesmerising. Je vous remercier
Nice intro! reminds me of Jack L. Very cool!
Thanks to Bethan, or I wouldn't have known about this. Beautifully played. Have you got any more music?
Not a moment too soon!
Yep! we can see out again, now! This is definitely an up and at 'em track :~D
LOL Yes! That's what this needs - a video with thunderstorms and dancers!
Good! I'll listen to this and then go and mow the grass!
Missed this. Bravo!
Ah! Domestic Bliss! I like this version a lot ;~)
Excellent. You nailed it!
those harmonies coming up to 3 minutes make the back of my neck start to stretch! Sublime!
FUN KEY !!
Brother Ray. Yes, and some Strummer, too. Kicking!

lovely contrast between the pace of the guitar and the laid back vocal. Great! Reminds me of Nick Drake in lots of ways.

Hahaa! Certainment! Bring your potions - the more the merrier!
