Waiting for the day
I’ve been trying to put another one of Mike’s poems to music, but not getting anywhere.
Then jip threw this music at me, saying he hated it and asking if I could do anything with it. Pieces of Mike’s poem went in and I sent it back to jip with a little message in the middle asking JB for some lead (I have no idea who JB is!). Jip then sent it back, with lead from JB, saying he loved it (men are so fickle).
The original vocal was done when I had a sore throat and sounded quite husky (I liked it), but I hadn’t put all the vocals in and couldn’t recreate the sound.
And then… the opportunity to have music tech lessons came up! I jumped at it, had my first lesson last week and have redone the vocals, putting most of what I’ve learnt into practise.
The poem itself was written by Mike shortly after he was told he had a daughter who was being put up for adoption, and there was nothing he could do about it. It was a while before I could sing it without bursting into tears.
Enjoy! xox
Lyrics:
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
Waiting for the day, the day I know I’ll cry
A tear for each day that I’ve asked why
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
I’ve learned my lesson and my lesson here is you
I may never know you, you may never know me
Only time will tell, only in time will we see
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
Waiting for the day, the day I know I’ll cry
Feelings I want to show and you will never know
In time you’ll know, in time you’ll grow
In time will I be here, in time will you even care
I hope you have a better life than any I could give
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
Waiting for the day, the day I know I’ll cry
I hope you have a better life than any I could give
What kind of life would you have had with me
Some things were not meant to be
Ooooooh la la la
Ooooooh la la la
Ooooooh la la la aaah
Ooooooh la la la
Ooooooh la la la
Ooooooh la la la aaah
I hope you have a better life than any I could give
What kind of life would you have had with me
Some things were not meant to be
I’ve learned my lesson and my lesson here is you
I may never know you, you may never know me
Only time will tell, only in time will we see
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
Waiting for the day, the day I know I’ll cry
Waiting for the day, the day you ask me why
Waiting for the day, the day I know I’ll cry
Waiting for the day (waiting, waiting, waiting)
The day you ask me why (waiting, waiting, waiting)
Waiting for the day (waiting, waiting, waiting)
The day I know I’ll cry (aaaaaaaah)
Waiting for the day (waiting, waiting, waiting)
The day you ask me why (waiting, waiting, waiting)
Waiting for the day (waiting, waiting, waiting)
The day I know I’ll cry (aaaaaaaah)
Waiting for the day

Ohh it's totally fabulous. A superb lead vocal performance, blissful to listen to. And I'm with La Savage on the backing vox - they are gorgeous.
Have to say also, the attention to detail in the backing vocal arrangement is absolutely fabulous. Great song, Lady!
Effortless classic sound! Beautiful, sweet vocal. Cheek-to-cheek wonderfulness.
