i've never tried gating one track to another. going to try now though. I use gates all the time, but I dont know they are there. built into a drum synth or a bass synth, both applied after recording say, a guitar track. I'm quite certain that those effects work by gate and trigger. Audacity has a gate effect, which I have almost entirely overlooked. certainly didn't know it could do that!

I'm back here to thank folks again. I finally released an "art rock" album that includes an updated version of this song. I was very nervous about singing and the nice comments here helped push me towards making the rest of the album (which is called Greener Grass, by Jostaberry, on Bandcamp and the streaming sites). So thanks, Len, and whoever was here before!
I'll tell you one thing for sure... I wouldn't trust no words written down on no piece of paper, especially from no Dickinson out in the town of Machine... you're just as likely to find your own grave.
I'll never be happy enough with it, lol so i posted a crazy improv, and i hope it sounds good enough to listen to at least once.
