As If It Really Matters - A A J Russe
Written 16th January 1999
Recorded 12th March 2022
The Shoebox Demos Vol 1

Crumbs, even this is 23 years old!

We used it as a set-opener in the last band I was in.

I’ve been trying to make a recording of it on and off for several years. Scrapped all of them.

The full production in my head has a definite feel I’ve been unable to capture so far.

I knew I could do it as an acoustic demo without too much trouble, this is how it was written in the first place, after all…

So here it is!

As If It Really Matters - A A J Russe

Everything seems to turn out fine
Each of us in the end should find
Something to say
When it matters

It should be easy just to go
Up to some stranger you don’t know
To tell them
If it matters

The way that you speak of love
The way that you think of it
I understand
You say the same place
At the same time
As if it really matters

I didn’t expect to meet you here
A little too soon to be so near
I’ll get away
When it matters

Pretty much anything will do
Buy us a wall for me and you
Something to say
That it matters

If it’s really like you say it is
There’s no need to worry now
You’ll be fine
We’ll say the same thing
At the same time
As if it really matters

Love it. Not used to you and that acoustic guitar. Sounds solid with your voice. If it’s really like you say it is, there’s no need to worry..."

Wow!!! This song did not age ....it is gorgeous. Truly beautiful and I love the complexity of the melody and how it moves about. I imagined hearing it live at a concert (I'd be in the front row!).
