Not all house’s are full of joy at Christmas ……This wasn’t actually our house

CHRISTMAS TIME AT OUR HOUSE
It was Christmas time at our house sat round the table waiting
Waiting for our father to return from the pub where he‘d a been drinking
Drunk as a skunk he fell through the door shouting at our mother
Shook of his coat down to floor he sat down and we were together
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy

The children we were happy excited by the day
But that was short lived when father had his say
He glared at my mother with eyes red with rage
For she had had the audacity to be slightly outrage
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy

Mother never said a word it was her eyes that did the talking
The plate smashed against the wall and father started it was shocking
Grabbing mother by the hair he slammed her head to the table
We sat there opened mouth doing nothing as we weren’t able
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy

He punched and kicked her as she ran screaming around the room
My sister started crying as my fathers temper bloomed
I grabbed his shirt tail trying to stop the fighting
But drunkenly he hit me and I went a flying
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy

Sirens from the police car rang around the room
Suddenly father was gone and we all sat silent in the gloom
It was Christmas day but no-one felt like celebrating
We nursed our mothers wounds
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy
It was christmas time at our house
And the children were full of joy

Sadly too true for some, my Dad had a wretched childhood thanks to drink and poverty in the 1920's and 1930's. Great song.

Saved!
