Sweet Little Hummingbird
Colleen Dillon
When my kids were babies, my Dad always used to hum a little tune when he was carrying them and trying to settle them down… it’s the sweetest, lilting sound, I’ve hummed it all my life, always thinking of my Dad when it was in my head. I’ve always thought about writing a lullaby, so I decided my Dad’s melody would be the perfect music to set it to… My Dad is great grandpa to 4 wonderful grandkids, and he hummed this tune to all of them, and all of my brothers and sisters when we were babies too…. Thanks for the inspiration Dad!!!! And thanks for listening to my first try at a lullaby…
SWEET LITTLE HUMMINGBIRD
Sweet little hummingbird
It’s time to go to bed
Still those tiny wings
And rest your tired head
You’ve been flying
Around all day
From pink to purple flowers
Drinking nectar as you play
And when you lay your head to rest
And the bats come out to play
They’ll be the ones
To fly ‘til break of day
Sweet little hummingbird
It’s time to go to bed
Still those tiny wings
And rest your tired head
Lay your head
On your little nest of straw
Dream your sunshine dreams
Say a prayer for us all
Tomorrow will be here
And you’ll be up to play
With all the other birds
Who you met today
Sweet little hummingbird
It’s time to go to bed
Still those tiny wings
And rest your tired head

Great song. I play guitar for my two smallest kiddos every night. I know that once kids get used a tradition, it's a great source of comfort from them.
