Dang, everyone except Rob (and Laura) (and me) liked the previous version! (Cupid's Own Knife)
Only i did this with the lyrics so maybe one can be a bonus track ...
aargghh ... why didn't i write a *different* song?

It was quite a lucky mindgame in that case, since you ended up with two very worthy tracks as a result...although I'm sure you'd have preferred more convenient timing (like NOT when you're trying to finish up an album with a looming deadline.)

i just went and re-read what you wrote at RPM, Rob/Laura and I must apologise - you actually said you like it - i didn't though, so i re-recorded, but then it felt like me against the world lol
ANd now guess what - i listened to the first one again and it sounds OK to me too. Aaaarrggghhh again. :-)
Weird how my mind plays tricks on me

Ok, to set the record straight: I didn't dislike the previous version...sorry if I made it sound like that. I certainly didn't mean to push you to rerecord...
THAT SAID, I much prefer this version. Great stuff.
(Great...I still sound like a complete jerk!)
:)

Again i'd love some feedback
I like the feel and the mix
do the lyrics work?
recorded t'night in an hour after trying all day to get the verse lyrics rammed into another tune
This is a bonus track as it didn't make the album
For those of you who know my stuff - does this sound like it works? or is it too much like filler - the vocals are effected, there's a drum loop - the guitar is just chopped out of a jam - i…

I unleash my secret weapon!
Guest vocalist Shaka brings the icing to this rather haunted version of the first chapter of Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier!

I love that laugh - i love how real this album is. Lovely vocal Jess. I will try to more coherent later but Funeral has just started and I'm a wee bit distracted1
Wow! this is going to be epic. I'm straight into Haight Ashbury, that piano is superb. It's loose to the point of being shambolic but it has such a strange momentum that it never fails. Faved. And those twin flutes. wonderful.
This time paying homage to grandpa. Did I miss any dead folks out this album?
I often stop and think of William
Up on Skinners Ridge
He passed me on his way back down
As I passed from being a kid
A shame you’d say
But aint that the way

My take on Gumbo's Keep Your Eye On The Spot, one of many excellent tracks from his RPM2011 album 'Cat's Moustache'. It's something of a departure from the original, though I was trying to retain an element of the gospel so hopefully its soul…

Anyone else still writing songs?
this is the result of trying to listen to too many mixes in one day. Sometimes it's just easier to record something else.

Recorded Oct 2010.
It was meant to be a full band pop-rock song. But I started overdubbing on the original exploratory demo I'd done to work out the arrangement (with no click track). I kept coming back to it intending to start afresh... but…
I’ve seen the trimmings you destroy
The kindness that you avoid
Our subtle ways our sad affairs
Our vagrant airs dissolve to noise
What do you contemplate you're standing still
Your posture motivates the scene
You still don’t understand…
Comments on Gumbo's stuff
Definitely feel-good-factor.
great stuff.

Thanks Gary - now read the about blurb that i just posted lol
Another great one!! Well done!
This track works so well! Sort-of reminds me a little of Johnny Cash (and that's a good thing!)
This rocks!!!!!!! It's a keeper!!! So gooood!!
This song rules.
Hahahahahaha, YEAH! Love it! Awright!
Hey this ain't no filler, it's great. Alright yeah!
That's really different for you, but I think it works fine. Has a great groove!!
I likes it. The groove, the vocal, the "awright".
I like the panning in this one separating the guitar parts.
Lovely tune, very nicely sung and played.
Nice one Stu! Love those backing vocals
Great song. The guitars have a nice Spanish vibe, which I like.

love the beat to this. Excellent!
had these on in the back ground while i cooked dinner i'll have to come back to sort out my faves but it works as an album - very solid.
Hooray - i can fave this too!
no excuse needed, decent filling makes the sandwich! faved
I knew i'd be blown away! It's like late 60's Temptations. Man, you got those Soul Man chops nailed. I'm VERY impressed.
thanks for the comment, MEJ I feel the same way sometimes but Hey! could you be more specific about what you think needs to be different?
just when i think it's safe you pull out the scary music! Excellent.
This is a lovely album. Exactly what i need after the last month. Thank you.
LOL Bethan - that is turning out to be true ....
LMAO - you're right, reg! I thought it was easy to play!
Brrrings it out !! love it Shades of Steve Harley perhaps and those harmonies are stunning. spot on and punchy as hell. Great song.
I'm still in mix mode so the first thing i notice how nicely you handle the change in volume towards the end. let's hear it for dynamic range!!
beautiful production! lol - i can't listen to music anymore - only technical details - can you tell i'm in mix mode?
