So after hearing some of Stephen Krell’s outstanding picking, I asked him if he’d like to play along with any of my songs… I can’t be happier with the one he picked to add his banjo to (seeing as how the song is written about my favorite Pete Seeger album and all, and the occasional past correspondence I had with the folk legend).

CIRCLES AND SEASONS

The morning radio’s been trying to get a new song in my head
I’d rather listen to Ol’ Pete sing “Maple Syrup Time” instead
It might have me feeling older than I should
But tonight I need to listen to the music from my childhood

I prefer to handwrite letters and send them on their way
I think my broken printing’s better than typing any day
I’d like to think it helps my voice come through the page
Some would say it’s just a way I show my age
It might have taken me a half an hour to write
But ain’t it worth the time to say it right?

In my heart I need to start planting inch by inch and row by row

Tonight I’m digging out my vinyl records
They’ve gathered dust for far to long
“Sailing Down My Golden River” once again
How could I go wrong?

It might have me feeling older than I should
Singing to the music from my childhood
Instead I find when I hear songs that Pete has sung
I’m looking through the blue eyes of my youth
Nine or ten years young
