My mother was taking Ambien a couple years ago to help with insomnia, and I was a little concerned that it might not be so safe so... I asked her for two tablets so I could see for myself.
Before trying that second tablet I had two cups of…
This one came together rather quickly -- maybe a total of one half hour total to quickly compose and record each track one after another.
For those with an interest in such things:
The drum track was "played" on a Korg KARMA keyboard workstation…
Just something done around the bedroom a couple days back...
This was an experiment in adding organic percussion -- clave, mark tree, and china cymbal -- to my usual mix of uke bass, guitar, and hardware synths.
Stayed up late last night making music and this one one of the results. Nothing too fancy. Played all the instruments myself, as per usual -- though not all of 'em simultaneously, of course! ;-)
OK, so i took two little somethings i did a year ago, heavily edited them, and spliced 'em together.
The first part i did lying in bed with the guitar and a handheld multi-tracker one morning; the second half..? Probably a different day…
Just a little improvisation. Though i fingered the chords and melody, it's fair to say most the heavy lifting's being done by a KARMA algorithm developed by Stephen Kay of Korg.
The latter piano half is simply a re-arrangment of that same…

Oops..
Posting this one again 'cause i screwed something up somehow.
This track is just tracks piled upon another to see what might stick, hence the title.
(Believe it or not, most of it was performed in real-time. My new way of working…
Thanks for nice words on my piece. Taking a listen to one of yours. Nice integration of wide range styles. Like hip hop lieu calypso beat and uptown piano sounds interspersed.
Thank you kindly, Fairynuff. Apparently cigar box guitars are all the rage on eBay these days; i bought a 2nd one and figured i better record something with it.
You'd get a better idea of the real (i.e., un-distorted) sound of them by searching for YouTube videos though, to be honest.
Thanks again for your kind and encouraging comment. :)
Thank you for your kind words on the previous version of this song, fairynuff. :) That means a lot to me as i greatly enjoy *your* work! (Are you uploading something new soon? Please, please! ;-)
I added some piano and fiddled around with the beginning to try to make it more interesting...
well this will be kind of random for my listeners... but what the "hey" as they say!
In a bit of a writing desert lately, but had a lovely walk two days ago, and got inspired by the sounds coming from newly frozen ice with at least 1000 migrating…

I'm not usually into four-on-the-floor kinda EDM/dance numbers, but something about your track really appeals to me. The different textures/sounds are a welcome change from the usual stuff i, well.. tend to avoid. ;-)
Thank you for posting it, doktordoktor. I'm really enjoying it! ^_^
I do not play the violin and other instruments.
I don't need it - I build the walls, and I do it better than anyone.
I'll build a walls around and don't need to think anymore.
I don't see lights, and the colors I don't need.
I am now a big…
Greg Connor, Scott Zosel and I wrote this one today around my coffee table. It's been awhile since we've had a chance to do that, and it felt like "going home" a bit to us...
We wrote this in support of all those who are trying to find the…
We were around the coffee table on Thursday night and dusted this one off from my 2014 archive. Greg Connor and Mark Lofgren pitching in on vocals and guitars....
I like this 2017 version....
They Don't Matter To Me
Some fools don’t…
Nice song, Colleen! Thank you for taking the time to (re-?)record it and post it. :)
If you don't mind my saying so, I kinda thought the lyric "Old fools cut my soul like a knife" might sound better -- maybe -- as "Old souls cut this fool like a knife."
But i don't really know the story behind how you came to write each of these lines.
Moreover, i kinda felt maybe more of the lines could do that sort of switcheroo with the meaning/intent throughout the song, but just didn't feel comfortable re-writing someone else's heartfelt lyrics, LOL !!
Hope you don't take that notion the wrong way; i meant it with the best of intentions. (Like a lot of song lyrics they can at first appear rather plain and lifeless on a stark, silent page -- but once the music started i was pleasantly surprised by how well it all played out! Heh, heh.. Then again, i *always* enjoy hearing your voice!! :-)
I decided this was a good song to post on Thanksgiving as a way to say thanks to all the folks on AloneTone for listening to my music over these past few years. This is another song in the studio work I've been doing this year. We're still tinkering…
Here's my last studio effort of the summer, as we roll into fall!
I wrote this one earlier in the year sipping mojito's at the proverbial beach bar and then posted it here.... I thought I'd give it a little sprucing up with the help from my…
Here's the second song I recently decided to do with a studio recording from one I wrote and posted here a while ago as a purely vocal version. It's one of my favorites.... I hope you'll enjoy it too
Singing In The Silence
Verse 1:
Singing…
It was cold just for one moment, memories flow imposed on each other as whimsical mosaics that didn't seem his own. Was it the dog called Monty, or ...
Thank you for another great listening experience, Igor. :)
I like that mature sense of "resolute longing" that i hear in some of your tracks. (Not that i don't like the others as well! ;-)
I wrote this song about 2 years ago and shared it here on Alonetone back then. I decided to do a studio recording of it recently. With the help of the team at F5 Soundhouse here in Minneapolis we've created this updated version. I hope you enjoy…
I love the way you tweaked it so Yeats rhymes with peat. ;-)
Love the imagery throughout! Just the brand name Guinness evokes so much on it's own, then "warriors' lament", "cry in our cups", et al.
Thank you for another great listening experience, Colleen. :)
THE LESSON
I saw her in a music store in Fort Worth, Texas
I'd driven in to buy some strings
It was like getting hit by a little fist in my solar plexis
when she said, “Can you help me tune this thing?”
She had a smile. A thin disguise…
This is the prepared guitar edit from Concerto for Prepared Guitar,Soundbox and Analog Synth, the entirety of which is here:

I decided to keep working on this one a bit on the "keep messing with it" program.... added some backing vocals and some piano.... kind of like where its heading after the one take wonder before... Any other suggestions are very welcome…
Cornwall, a place where I have never been, and probably will never be - what is it? Sun, sea, lapping waves, moonlit path at night? Public, Idly strolling down the wide sidewalk, quietly... Ringing/sparkling kids, playing?
Or perhaps this that…

Intriguing. Seems suited to this season, hopeful but a little melancholy too. Dell

Thank you for your kind comment, Bethan.
Sounds cool!! Love the vibrato melody on top :D
I don't have a kitty but it would probably drink Caduceus wine ;)

Beautiful! A great way to start a lazy New Years morning! Best of 2017 to you!!!
Nice sounds. Effective and yet minimalist
Perfect soundtrack for a night out stargazing at the meteor showers. Really cool!
Short lines, converge and diverge somewhere out, to get back, to run again and again, around and around ~
Nice.
Cool! Kavin./Breaking Light/Coelocanth

Enjoyed this story and the song. Thank you for uploading it!
Really enjoying the circus-like atmosphere! ^_^
Very relaxing. Love the backwards and downwards-pitched tones!
Nice! Very relaxing. ^_^
Loving the backing vocals and piano! ^_^
Title had me intrigued, and then i was hooked right from the first few glassy, dulcet tones. The ending was interesting, too! :)
Very nice! Thank you for sharing it with us, igor. Really enjoying it! ^_^
