I Give In

I found this one while I was digging through the shoe-box for the 1994 songs. Apparently I wrote it on 10th November 1995.

Foolishly, I thought it would only take a week or so to record… I was originally expecting to post it on the 17th August… I was even hoping to have completed another 3 or 4 offerings by now… (and I’ve got some cute ones lined up).

But I got a bit derailed by work, gardening, plumbing, lying on the sofa, general incompetence and ineptitude, that sort of thing.

I’m fairly certain I was thinking “Led Zeppelin” when I wrote this back in 1995. I believe I was intending a Bron-Y-Aur Stomp kinda thing. But in 2020 it seems to have turned into a bit of a country-swing, telecaster-fest type thang.

At least you can still hear the acoustic guitars I started with back in July.

Anyway, it now has the Mrs R seal of approval, so that’s plenty good enough for me.

I Give In - A A J Russe

There’s some refinement in you
In the words that you choose
I just love to hear you talk
The syllables you use
Can I afford to expose my heart to you
I don’t know
I give in

I feel a sense of wonder
When you hold me with your eyes
But I’m not sure of what you feel
I can’t see through your disguise
Are you indifferent or do you hold me in contempt
I don’t know
I give in

I fear my actions have shown me in bad light
I fear the hand that will gently put me right
Do my attentions really cause such pain
What do you think
I don’t know
I give in

You drive a coach and horses
Through my defences every time
You leave me standing speechless
I face a mountain I must climb
Should I follow or do you want me to turn back
I don’t know
I give in
I’m ashamed for the assurance that I lack
What do you think
What do you think
I don’t know
I give in

Love it - also the era it is from! I hear the Bron-Y-Aur Stomp but only because you mention it (that is one of my favourite Zeppelin songs). Fun and great musicianship truly.
