I have always loved jazz and blues but never really had the chops to really play jazz. But I can feel it and I tried to create that feel with this tune using my sweet old 63 jazzmaster. This was also an experiment in doing a complete time change…
woke up from a bad sleep because there was a mosquito in my room driving me crazy ... I had no words to this tune and just spontaneously put down what ever came into my head and sang it .

I use to have a studio in a small city and most days I would see these two fella's walking the streets or asking for some change. They were a visual part of my life so much that if I didn't see them for a day or two I would wonder where they went…

Well I started this with a little guitar groovin' thing I was playing with and laid it down to a click track thinking I was going to just keep it just guitar , bass and vocals and off it went.
This song really is just all about life moving by…

Another song that is entirely in 7/8. I like this one a little bit even though the riff seems a bit forced. The guitars are all Les Paul.
I won’t try to hold you back
I won’t try to keep you down
I just want to build you up
I just want…
Good rocker ...finesound on the drums especially with this odd timing.
There's nothing like a Les Paul for this style of tune. Excellent guitar work .... thick crunchy rhythm and killer wah! That cymbal crash at the end sounds great.
Apologies to George but I love the song. Its shocking to find out that Paul and John rejected it until George dragged Eric to the studio one day. Imagine the White Album without this...
no effects of any type on this for good or ill.

Jan 17 2015 - Remixed. I was always kinda disappointed with what the original mix sounded like. Listening to it the other day I realised what it is - I'd mixed the vocals too loud. This reduced the "stereo" and killed off a lot of the life…
beautifully composed ... love the bass and piano at the start ... great when it kicks in ...like the nuances like the strings and electric guitar bits ... a well produced and mixed piece that takes you on a few dynamic journeys ...the ending rocks ... strong vocals.
Had this one written before the end of year. Finally hit the record button a couple of weeks ago with some electric rythym guitar tracks and built it from there. I was having a problem getting the song to mix right and had an idea to try a different…
You've got some nice originals ... this has that catchy hook feel to it.
The organ is a nice touch in the chorus?bridge. I hear a touch of Petty and a hint of Brian Adams but it's totally you.
Just me and my acoustic.
I've just learned how to record both at the same time.
I didn't know this song the day before this recording.
It was done in one take, with dodgy guitar playing, wrong lyrics and sore throat :)
A lil rocker influenced by some of my faves, Springsteen, Petty etc.. well i left my home and family
and made my way out west
i lost my job at the steel mill
im a hoping for the best
in this life
for my kids and wife
just outside of Davenport…
Great tune James. It does touch a place in that whole Springsteen Jackson Browne feel that I love so much. Great performance. Some nice piano and sax ... good tune!
Next in the little pile of songs from the shoe-box. This one has the date 27th January 1994 written on it, but it's describing an episode from many years earlier when I was, I'm guessing, something like 12 or 13 years old.
I had to go to a…
eyes all around

dont abuse the diguise the one they made,

we must hide to survive the thought police their searching…
I was flapping around working on something else with just vocal and guitar the other day. It wasn't going well, so I just started slapping the guitar and singing one of my favourite songs.
What I didn't realise was that I was recording it…
billy boy where did you go
sittin in a pile of snow
come on down its gettin cold
for the time is getting old

That Guitar has got to be a Gibson Es 335. Strong composition. Loved all the nods to the many instrumental voices.
