The Man in the Mask
August 28 - An intentionally ambiguous lyric that’s not meant to say anything necessarily about the pandemic …. or maybe it could?
VERSE:
He was walkin’ up downtown
Through the heart of the city
The streets were gettin’ crowded again
He knew he was invisible
To all of the masses
Who were unaware of his simple grin
He makes his way through the sweating throngs
Who only care about themselves
He wishes things were different as he moves right along
Until he’s safe at home again
CHORUS:
The Man in the Mask
Doesn’t speak or need to stay silent
The Man in the Mask
He doesn’t have a social disease
He patiently watches the world spin around
While all the others do just as they please
[HORN INTERLUDE]
VERSE:
He knows that times are rough these days
But these things must pass
And he can see the end anyway
When everyone will understand
Their own misdirection
How they didn’t keep the horses at bay
The patriot actors will hide on their shelf
“A misunderstanding” they’ll plea
And everyone else will just move on with their lives
As the remnants of the past fly away
CHORUS:
The Man in the Mask
Doesn’t speak or need to stay silent
The Man in the Mask
He doesn’t have a social disease
He patiently watches the world spin around
While all the others do just as they please
