The recording was my first "serious" project on my Boss MBR, I was stunned that you could do something like this on a little silver…

Acoustic blues. Recorded in 2005. I was trying to record something else, can't remember what, and the missus was going out. She had cyclist Lance Armstong's book, or was talking about it. Sounded like a great title for a song as well as his book…
So I was locked in the broom-cupboard, checking out some old songs that need recording.
I'd just picked one and then suddenly this thing came out of nowehere. It started with one of those guitarist doodles that other musicians love so much…
The tension in this is palpable from the first question. The quiver in the voice. The nakedness of the questions. "Often forget you understand." Hard to hear as just another blues song.

New one from me. It's ended up as a bit of a "crying into yer beer at Bob's Country Bunker" sort of song lol...
I've been sat on these lyrics in some form or another for absolutely years. I first wrote them one very dark night a few years after…

This one started out one morning several weeks ago when the sun was still shining...
If it's as wet and dark as it is here, just close your eyes, I'm sure you can imagine it if you try hard enough...

lol - the bass was an organ set to "hammer house of horrors", perhaps I overdid it! (The reverb on the vox is deliberately "chilly" as well)
I wanted stark and lonely in the verses. But I also wanted comfort in the choruses - which is what the other instrumentation was intended to bring... but I've given up on that idea... it now sounds to me like the singer is incapable of bringing the comfort he offers, and he knows it... so I'll leave it them both to it :)
And nope, I didn't steal the teddy bear... But mine were removed from me and given to my sister when I was about 8 years old... so I do know exactly what I'm talking about lol

If I'd held it back and put the parts on that I was rehearsing that day it would have been fine... and possibly better...

This was written for the 2014 RPM Challenge. The chromatic thing at the beginning had been rattling around in my head for years and years but had never found a home.

And that "yeah" - it sounds like an expression of "NAILED it" at the end of a take... and I shall take it as that. But it could so easily be what I tend to capture a lot: a response to a call of "dinner's ready, I've called you three times already" lol

Woah! That use of the wah is SO cool. The vocal is a goodie too. I like that guitar doing the plink plink plink kind of piano part thing. The guitars are huge. Love the "yeah!!" (is that what it is?) at the end. Digging this track big time.
The first song completed for the second round of re-recorded Quarantine Tunes. This one was written on the last day of the 2016 RPM Challenge. I had written a bunch of songs saying that people who think the Earth is flat are somehow defective…
GEETARS! :) Love the leads... Oh yeah... I think I'd like the rhythm ones louder, but they've got a lot of mids between them, so they probably could drown out the rest. I think we could take a spot more, though... Oh! Just reread the blurb - the rhythms are through a cocked wah? Ah, then you had the same problem as whoever had to mix Blizzard of Ozz, MSG, etc! LOL (I only tried that technique once - bear in mind this was a bluesrock band - my sound engineer went "wtf are you doing!?!? If you keep doing that I'm just turning your fader down..." lol)

Oh yeah, utterly groove-tastic. Superb feel on the playing. I don't really know much about jazz, or fusion, or where the lines are drawn between that and the blues, but who cares, I like what I like and, like the man, says "sublime" ... Love those organ sounds. Niiice.

What a fabulous harp tone. And the guitars. And the bouncing bass. And the piano. WOW the break is fabulous - some Rory-ish slide and then that harp SHINES. And the out with the boogie-woogie and clean guitar. Oh. My. Goodness. This is SO good.
