Matter Of Fate
Gary Fox
Matter Of Fate- This song started as a riff I was doing while tuning my guitar. It sounded cool, so I happened to record it on a small dictation recorder I have so I wouldn’t forget it. When I listened to the riff it just screamed Sticky Fingers at me. So I pulled out my best Motown grooves, grabbed my cabasa, tambourine and shakers and went to town. I do not love with the way it just kind of ends, but it sort of works, in a Stonesy, sloppy sort of way. It is what it is, it would have been different, but I don’t want to get in the last days of Feb storm again. Plus, I rarely play slide, so that was kind of fun. I also realized that vocally the song would need something more soaring than single vox delivery, so I decided to bust out the harmonies to give this one some more tension. (This song is full of tension, for me anyway)The lyrics are based on something that happened in early February that still stings fresh. Since it wouldn’t be a total downer for me, I decided I would put a French word in there, just because. See if you can find it. Thanks to Uglifruit for inspiring that; he had done a song in French which I really liked. Plus, I used to speak the dang language (somewhat), so I figured I should use it a little.
Whoa! I like this very much. Yep Sticky Fingers, but with, I dunno, a Joe Walsh kind of vocal. Nice one.
most excellent,, sometimes the coolest thoughts/tunes come while were looking the other way yes??? well done
Rockin'!!
great one. I must have missed this one GF. Catchy lil riff you've got there too.
Yea, you have inspiration by the bucketload to pull a great song like this out of a tuning exercise. This is wonderful.
Bit more keyboards :-) and "Boston" will reborn here. I like it. You're American Rocker, yeahh...
Oh, just read when i clicked the send button already, someone said Rundgreen :-) Yes, that is a far better comparison!
Love the vocal harmonies on this track, and the guitar riff as well ( no, it is not stones, it is more enjoyable)
The extra percussion really adds to this groove nicely. Classic rock and roll. Cool!
Man of many talents! Good job!
definitely a stones groove...keith richards should listen to you to remember what its like
Am I the only one who's noticing the Todd Rundgren vibe going on here? Awesome.
I'm picking up serious Boston vibes from this.. Maybe throw in a little Rolling Stones for good measure.
