White Light was written in June along with 10 other "Off the cuff" tunes. Just before the great flood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Our house was flooded and slowly being rebuilt. This is 4th of the 10 to be recorded.
This great old (Public Domain) song by Stephen Foster which I just do and has nothing to do with my current state of life but may not be true for others.
I do this song in a most unusual way. That is to say I changed the melody of the verses…

hey thanks for the comment. what do you mean by "the spacial thing?" acctually, i'm not too pleased with how "a love song for the cursed" turned out, my friend who wrote it has an incredible voice so i guess its hard to match :D thanks again!

A song I did a while back of which I aim to re-do at some point. This one still has the scratch vocal and Acoustic guitar so rather crude and gravel like.
1st of 10 "Off the cuff" songs I wrote just before the great flood.
I haven't really had a chance to work on any but this one. This is different than the rest of them. All I did was turn on a drum machine and played and sang what ever popped into…

I excel at disappearing for long stretches, eh?
I think with this I'm officially committing to doing FAWM.
And R.I.P. my songwriting drought. August 27th, 2009 - February 1st, 2010.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to all things midi related. Recently got myself a midi keyboard though and came up with this short piece just messing with sounds in Proteus. Really looking forward to the possibilities of combining this sort…
Sitting around in my shop a couple of days ago with the Goodall and the Zoom H4N. First time I've really messed with using the internal mics on the H4N in multitrack mode
I really was carrying the ash from the fire out in the dark and looking at the stars and thinking how weird that was - to be throwing the ashes out in the middle of the night and pitch black and everything
Mining the archives a bit. This is an alternate take of my "Jimi Jam" from a couple of years ago. Live to 2 tracks with the Jamman. Really only sounds OK when cranked up loud enough that your eardrums threaten to meet in the middle. LOL!!
I had this old song sitting around and decided to re-do it. The chorus used to be slightly different.
The drums are from "Drummer" and the song is played using "Pointless Picks" Recorded in "Garage Band" and Mastered in "Tracktion."

Thanks Bethan. Yes it was our first Thanksgiving back home. It's great to be back!
I appreciate your opinion re: this tune. Your input is very valuable to me. As I listen to both versions I see what you mean.
I should have fixed the mix of the first one rather than redo the song. By doing version 2 however I did learn a valuable lesson. When I recorded the two guitar parts (in stereo) I panned them just slightly to either side. This simple step opened the middle for the vocal and made each part distinct. An obvious thing but before I had assumed that having them in the middle because they were stereo would be ok. Not so. I should have remixed the original this way to see if it would help that mix. I'll bet it would.
I have not been able to do much lately because of rebuilding our house which had been in a major flood. The flood was in June 08 and we are just getting back in! Anyway I should be doing more soon.

Comments on Gilbert Neilson's stuff
I like the layered guitar, this song and your voice totally remind me of lou reed. its awesome keep on truckin!
I like your style Gilbert. This is a cool song.
Great hook - really nice sounding production. Love the guitar tones!
Very funny Bethan! Sorry someone sneaked in before you but thanks for asking.
Fav'd one minute in. Great Job. Love the chords you've chosen. Just beautiful
Lovely airy feel. If I had a hangover this morning, this would be pure bliss - but I don't, which makes it even sweeter.
Yes, you have given this song the wonderful Gilbert treatment. Love the harmonica.
by the way, i like the multiple guitar layers, its very rhythmic yet melodic!

Lovely song, like the chorus especially.
I do love your laid back style and accent mmm. Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, great song!
Like this too good song mate
This is great love it
Great pick-me-up music. (And I played this along side "Nightbird" by rdegive by accident, and it sounded awesome with a birdsong backdrop.)
Thanks Johnny, glad you liked it.
Nice track mate
I meant "awesome" :)
how do you get this awsome stereo sound?! great work
Lovely mix and such a big sound off of those strings! Great song, sir! I love the way it gets darker verse by verse.

Good going. Nice song.
I like the song and guitar. The vocal could be a little louder however. Good job.
Mix is a little quiet but after I turned it up very nice. I like the job you did.
Heavy man! Big sound.
Vocal could be a bit louder but I like it a lot.
Sorry but it wouldn't play.
Very interesting. Lots of variety here. Maybe a little too slow getting going but once it does then 'tis wild. Good playing!
So nice! your playing and tone are excellent!
Excellent!
Good one Stu! As usual of course. What a subject.
I like your Holiday song! Good job!
"Jimi Jam" is right on! Excellent!
Hey Bethan! Thanks. Sorry I've not been around but I should have more time soon.
Thanks J.S. Glad you liked my song
You are right! Very nice.
And thanks to all who listened to my songs!

Very nice indeed!
Turning Coffee into a song, great! I love coffee and this song. I'm glad it's not just a recording of you making the stuff. :)
