This is the basic theme for "weekend in new orleans", a documentary we're currently writing the soundtrack for (it'll be adapted with variations throughout the film). It's very quiet. (Video trailer coming shortly.)

A further march down the road in acl's evolution - and one of the many directions we've been dying to get to... it's, ummm, water-y. (And this song is especially dedicated to J Wentz.)

Ha, I think you got a good idea of what's going through my brain right now... and it's definitely uplifting to have this kind of song to represent it. You two really are the king and queen of simple-yet-powerful chord progressions.

The frames hang on the wall
We so often walk by
And don't notice at all
The world was still new
There's a light in your eyes
Back before we all grew
Close the window
It's getting cold
Or maybe I'm just getting old
There's a promise…

We so often walk by
And don't notice at all
The world was still new
There's a light in your eyes
Back before we all grew

Or maybe I'm just getting old
There's a promise…
This pretty much sums it all up for me I guess.

Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, the opening melodies to this song found their way into my head... A song of hiking, love, and life... Won't you come with me on the trail?
Well, I had to swear SOMEWHERE in the album.
GIRLS LIKE YOU
You’re young and pretty
Shy and smart and witty
With a face that could’ve
Launched a thousand ships
Tall, dark, and stupid
He must’ve paid off cupid
To get his ugly face…
Another old song that got a little country twang when it became obvious that the horn section wouldn't be showing up on my doorstep any time soon.
"You fools don't know what's going on inside her head"
A song written for a great girl who'll be getting married next year...
"You'll always be this young if love comes first
And you stay filled with life."
It wasn't until I finished recording this track that I realized how great an influence the ocean has had on my songwriting.

So many widow's walks in New England. So many hardened girls.
CAN'T WALK ON WATER
Can't walk on water
Can't drown in the sand
A fisherman's daughter
It's out of her hands
If you told her you loved her
She'd want to know why
There…
