This is a poem written by my late grandmother, Margaret Nina Hogan, written for her first daughter, Dolores. This was probably written in the early 1930’s in England. My grandmother wrote a lot of poems throughout her life and i have put about a dozen of them to music.

          Dolores

Intro: 6/8 E E/B / F#m7 B ://

E E/B A B E E/B F#m7 B
We, who profess to love you, brought you here
E E/B A B E E/B F#m7 B
Into this world, so bitter and so drear
C#m G#m A Am E
To take your chance of happiness or grief
C#m G#m A E Bsus B(sus)
And test the virtue of our past belief
E E/B A B E E/B F#m7 B
That pain was nought beside love’s glorious smile
A Am E to intro
That life itself was, very worth the while

Forgive us if you can, for in our eyes
In those sweet days the world was paradise
And this I pray that love may come to you
For though so much is false this still is true
With all the sin and sorrow, grief and greed
Love still can make the world seem heav‘n indeed

Lyrics by Margaret N. Hogan/Music by Paul Lisney
