The Inappropriate Question

She said, “I can see that you’re hurting.
And I can see that you are wearing a ring.
Perhaps an inappropriate question,
but I’d like to ask you something.
Soon I will be a grand mother
I have a husband that I’ve loved for years
But lately I’ve thought a thought that I’ve fought
a thought that’s turned my questions to fears
You see, today I was running some errands
