Edith Finally Gets It
Andrew Russe
(Remastered 22/10/2021)
And here we go - Edith FINALLY gets it…
Actually, she’s been getting it ever since I wrote it on the 29th May. I thought it would take a week or so, but it proved to be more of a fight than I was expecting.
On top of struggling to sing it (I am NEVER using the name Edith in a song again!!!), and then having to learn a new slide technique, I had awful trouble with the arrangement/mixing. When it comes down to it, I have two basic mixing techniques: “everything louder than everything else” and “everything quieter than everything else”. Neither approach gave me ready results this time.
Anyways, we’re done, finally.
After this little marathon, I think I might go back to the old shoe box and dig out some more ancient songs about death and wotnot. 1994 seems to have been a particularly good year for that sort of thing…
Edith Finally Gets It - A A J Russe
Edith finally gets it
She gets it where it hurts
She’s spent so many years now
Scratching at the dirt
She battled all the monsters
With their many coloured cloaks
Edith finally gets it
Now she’s really on her own
She made it through the picture
She ascended to her throne
Now Edith finally gets it
She has always been alone
Incidentally
If you’re wondering
Edith’s friend
The mirror
Tells her
Every thing
She’ll ever need to know
She’s happy in her home
Edith finally gets it
After all the things she’s lost
Everything she wanted
And how much it all cost
But Edith finally gets it
She is your winner after all
And incidentally
As you’re asking
Edith’s time
Though short
Should tell you
Every thing
You’ll ever need to know
Edith’s happy in her home

Sounds like another suicide song to me... We can feel the pain in your voice.
Oh yeah...the slide just kicked in and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Killer groove, the bass and drum lock up, along with the Rhodes...... Love the space in this mix too. Damn, Andrew, you are on fire. It's good to hear you making music again. Selfishly speaking, it's inspiring.
Thanks so much for the background notes. You are so right.... now I love it even more. And it sounds like you are an amazing friend as well... but no surprise there!!!! Hugs to you !!
You're currently writing amazing songs that make my heart hurt a bit. If that didn't happen, I'd like them even more. That's the trouble with fantastic songwriters.
Huge and mighty, as usual, Mr Russe. (Poor Edith, happy or not, I do wish she was getting something like a hotdog or a gun.)
wow!!!! Your voice is just epic!!! I love the pacing of this song. It makes me want to know all the backstory about Edith. An instant fav...
Love the slide! What a great song. No one warns us that vowel sounds matter when writing lyrics, but you nailed it.
So very cool. Not my place, but I wish the outro was also the intro. I like what I like. I liked that very much.
Dig it right from the first note cool work on the slide you know how to write to song :-) KC
That’s a real energetic Edith at the beginning of the verse she certainly gets it ...loving it ....nice solo ....
