Someday

Andrew Russe

A new original from me. Another one-voice, one-guitar, “live” performance in my broom-cupboard. This time it’s the good ole tin guitar.

I wrote this one in 2002 during the “dark years” lol. I’ve ummed and aahed over the years on whether to record this as a “band thing” or like this. Yesterday, while I was rehearsing a trad old blues/folk song to record with the resonator, the songsheet for this fell out of the box. It was written on the type of guitar I was holding, in this tuning, so I cleared the tracks I’d been recording and did this instead.

The song was written about my wife (but I hadn’t actually met her by then!!)

Someday - A A J Russe

Somedays I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I know what I want
Somedays I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I do

Walk to school but find I’m naked
I feel such a fool
Feel such a fool
Walk to school but wind up naked
Feel such a fool
I do

Don’t wake me - I know I’m dreaming
Disturb me - I’ll wake up screaming
Don’t shake me when I’m in this sweat
Things are bad
But I ain’t dead yet

Someday I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I do

From the tree where I been hiding
I took a tumble
Dreadful tumble
From this tree where I been hiding
I took a tumble
Down

Here at the bottom, well, you was there
There to catch me
There to catch me
At the bottom you was there to catch me
With your pretty arms
And I do

Don’t wake me – in case I’m dreaming
Disturb me – I might wake up screaming
Don’t shake me when I’m in this sweat
Things are bad
But I ain’t dead yet

Someday I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I know what I want
Someday I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I do

Don’t wake me – in case I’m dreaming
Disturb me – I might wake up screaming
Don’t shake me when I’m in this sweat
Things are bad
But we ain’t dead yet

Someday I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I know what I want
Someday soon I wake up smiling
I know what I want
I do

One of the many things I love about your voice is that you can turn from low key rev to buttock-grabbing throttle in a split second. That’s pretty fantastic.

Clean! Like the simplicity. The intensity.

What grabs the most about this is “things are bad, but I ain’t dead yet..” Love the blues! I felt this one a lot.

Yep, I like that as well now, VERY much… but I didn’t really believe it when I wrote it! lol - it was more of a yearning for it to be true.

This kind of guitar playing really gets me going. Nice job.

I like that notion of optimism right around the corner … but not quite here yet.
