The Day We Stormed the Barn

The Barn Storm (another band here on alonetone) is about as good as it gets. I had the fleeting idea last year that I should make an album inspired by the names of as many great indie musician friends as possible.

This is the only one that took shape.

THE DAY WE STORMED THE BARN

They held the high ground
Throwing artillery down from the sky
Tracks in the snow all around
Fingers in mittens just covering our eyes

From the hay lofting laughter and shouts
Gravity-fueled from the second floor
Only one way in or out
You and I held hands and ran towards the door

The snow that rained down from above
How your fiery eyes outshone the sun
Before we knew we were in love
I’ll always remember the day we stormed the barn

They the high ground
Everyone telling us we were too young
Both of us knew what we’d found
Like a prize we’d both played for and won

The east-fading light in your hair
Clouds rolling in from the west
A summer night’s chill in the air
Holding you close, close to my chest

The rain pouring down from above
Only moments before we’d been drenched by the sun
Finding out we were in love
I’ll always remember the day we stormed the barn

From time to time skies’ll get gray
And the old building couldn’t get wetter
But still it stands solid today
For worse or for better

The little ones held the high ground
Throwing the snow from the second floor
Their laughter the echoing sound
You and I held hands and ran towards the door

The snow pouring down from above
Your fiery eyes outshining the sun
Our kids knowing nothing but love
I’ll always remember the day we stormed the barn
