Hey friends, it's been awhile! I just got back from Alpharetta, where I managed to get a few short hours hanging with my good friend Treefrog. We recorded a whole bunch of weird noises & then decided to do at least one "real" song. This is…
I have touched and I have known
the memories of stone
And echoes of the oceans
are etched upon my bones
My body's of the earth
and my spirit's of the sky
My mind is of the matter
these memories will never die
So let's go down below…
This is my submission for Akron/Family's "Woody Guthrie's America" Project.

Goodbye Blue Monday
-
Goodbye blue Monday
There's nothing else to say
We always knew
we would part this way
Time comes to say goodbye
To pause perhaps and wonder why
Why we always had to be
So blue, so blue
I can see that life…
(RPM 2011) For obvious reasons, many RPM albums make use of improvisational sound collages. ;-) This is the first of three that divide the record into sections. You may or may not hear the connections in the lyrics, but it actually does make…

Sloane did me a favor & played an electric guitar part on this one. I had hoped to work with her more on this project, but she wound up leaving town to help take care for a recovering family member.

I'm like a tumbleweed, got no roots
I'm like a climbing vine, leaves and chutes
Come tomorrow, I might not be around
Come tomorrow
I'm a reflection, you see me in your mirror
A missed connection, so far and yet right here…

As far as I recall, that was simply a stock rhythm track from an old Alesis drum machine. I was applying some effects in real time during the mix, bringing the level up & down which gives it that cool swirly dynamic...
Thanks for listening!

@rinyville - Thanks for the response! I tend to want to bury my vocals in the mix... I resisted the urge this time, but when I listen back, it just seems too loud. I am really curious if anyone agrees that it could stand to be brought down just a touch?

To all who commented, thanks for listening! I do think the vocal is *just a bit* too loud... anyone agree with that assessment?
@Mr Sandbags - I did actually smoke Marlboros once upon a time, but that was over twenty years ago! No more tobacco for me!
Well, howdy there folks! There is now a full-band incarnation of Cave Street, gigging here in middle Tennessee since November of 2022. It would be swell if you could follow us at: http://facebook.com/cavestreet
Of course, you don't need…
Way cool song, I like the changes and the set up for the solo break -- the drums are very 'in your face' but I'm sure I will appreciate the mix more when I play this on my home system instead of my work machine!
Technically not part of my RPM 2023 project, and it was mainly recorded in January 2023. It is probably not worth listening to, but I can't make a playlist with a prime number of songs so this is #6.
The song lyrics will not make any sense…
If this wasn't such a hot mess I'd be more ashamed of myself than I already am.
Use me up before I expire
Just read the label, the warning is dire
I'm Long past my best-by timer
Got a little bit of a rotten slimer
USE ME UP

As great as the previous songs were, I think this one is my favorite. Such a funky groove & then that descending progression had me hooked, but then that bass breakdown just puts it over the top!
Last song? Ever?? The hell you say! No way man, this has a great riff, funky bass, vocal harmonies. You need to put together a band and bring this stuff into a live setting!
OMG, these titles are cracking me up! Is the best singing you've ever done? Definitely the most emotive! Wow, Dave you really do keep getting better each year. I wonder if not having Olivia recording with you this year somehow inpired you push yourself? And again, I'd really love to be able to read the lyrics!
Great solo, Dave!! Put those lyrics up when you get a chance! This somehow reminds me a little bit of Psychic Ills, like maybe something from their Inner Journey Out record. Whatever, it's a cool stoney vibe!!
It's been brought to my attention that the component mineral is MOGANITE, not Morganite. Please delete me.

Thanks for the spins & comments, y'all.
@Dweeb, this is an old track from 2020. I tried multiple takes of this song.... not sure if this version was a vocal overdub or not, I'd have to find the old master tracks to figure it out. I found this on my old laptop when cleaning up desktop files the other night. I wrote/recorded this in April of 2020, not long after John Prine passed away. I guess it was kind of my tribute to him.
Can you hear me?
Can you see my screen?
I'm explaining
Exactly what I mean
There's an error on the next slide, and I hope that you will bear with me

Feel a little bit achy now

Goin to the healthy store
Buy what you need

I saw this beautiful name in a scientific paper. There are many people with this name, this particular one is a crystallographer. So I ignored all that and wrote a song about Indian food. I take full responsibility for the horrid mispronunciation…
Darn it now I'm hungry. Mmmm, gulab jamun.
I think I say every year that it's your best record ever, but I really do think you get better each year!! Keep on rockin'!!
Messing around with my Zoom H4N recorder. I cheated and re-recorded the vocals, added the harmonica, and mixed it down using Reaper. I plugged my ancient TR-707 and bass right into the recorder like it was the '90s or something.
I wrote and…
I went into the kitchen and I made a big mess
'cause I'm an idiot sandwich
I pushed it all aside and I ate all the rest

It's basically a punk rock song about yoga. I have spend a lot of time during quarantine following along with https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene
Not really sure how I managed to get it to 4:39 long but that's what it is…
This year's six-minute depressive Dad-rock ballad.

Sitting around on a Friday afternoon, Feeling hungry and alone
There aint nothin worth eatin in the fridge, noone to call on the phone…
Well now ya hit me right in the feels -- when you sing "hungry and alone" I'm felling that. And more brown guitar stylings... always a good thing. This one's heavy, hope your gonna lift us back up after this!
Looking at your resume, one key takeaway is there ain’t a single thing you know
Comparing the candidates I gotta say candidly there ain’t no place you can go
So we make an offer of a minimum salary
What do you think of it? Does this make you…
Dave, you & Olivia have knocked this out of the park. Some of your best instrumental work with regard all the layers of sound, great arrangement! Do I detect a slightly brown influence on this track?
I look away, I cannot see the vase behind me
I turn and see, the flower very nearly dying
I try to fill the vessel up with the water from my cup, no timing
I try again, but another bloom is fading
I walk away, and to myself berating…
Holy Moly!!! This record is off to a great start, but this is easily my favorite song so far, and an all-time favorite Dweeb track!!! GLAA DEEE OOO LAS!!!!
Bonus points if you can figure out what this song is about before the end of the first verse.

Now this is too damn catchy! And that harp!!! Tasty!
More excellent guitar work, and another great bass line! This is surely your best record ever, Dave!!
Rippin solo on this one. Yoga rock, who'd a thunk it?!

Love hearing y'all sing together & the harmonica break! (And I'm probably wrong, but it seems like Mario 3 fits?)
