The theme for Improv Friday this week is "variations". So here's an improv reconstruction of the one classical piece I know, Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

Ditty #10 for RPMC. I really had a hard time trying to come up with the final track, so I fell back on the old loop/delay/ebow improv formula, which I had hoped to avoid on this album. Kind of acoustic Breaking Light. Well it crossed the finish…

very nice, and one of my favorites,, there's a classic and wonderful piano variation of this, that i use as one of my practice/demo/personal feel good pieces,, i like your take on this,, well done
Song #2 for the RPMC. My goal is to have 12 short tunes (1-3 minutes long), so I need to pick up the pace.
Again, quartal tuning on the top 3 unison pairs of the 12 string. I've been listening to Ralph Towner's Blue Sun, hence the title.
Ditty #9 for the RPMC album "Bones".
I'd had this rolling around in my head for about a year now, and even played it live with the SD&Q trio. Didn't quite turn out as planned, which is not unusual.
This is our little bundle of joy now grown up to be 10 years old. She took up the flute this year at school and this is her first effort in front of my microphone.

PORTAL and HAPPINESS and TIME are three of the songs on my new CD, EUREKA. Short pieces.
TIME
There was a time when I figured my Chevy van would last forever
I guess that was back when I was about thirty
And there was a time when I thot…
A Friend of mine (Dave Passourd) is a very talented song writer...
But he never records his stuff....
His songs rest with the memories of those that are lucky enough to get to hear his tunes.
Here is what I remember of a Song that he…

4 stereo guitar tracks played out one at a time.
Another late night - early morning recording.
I like to keep a positive attitude about the things that haunt me, but sometimes dreams change course unexpectedly, and the worms creep in.
This is a great album, excellent mix of electronics (Jeremy Camp) and female vox (Girl named Sam). Check the rest of it out at the RPM site or their reverbnation link.
just finished this one, represents a slightly new direction i am taking i think.
i am particuarly proud of the polyrhythmic sound i achieved. i was worried it mite become too cluttered (at the beginning) but i think i achieved clarity.
Just a basic dance track because its just fun to bounce around sometimes. Also another excuse to use a growly bass sound... a "60 Hz Hum Bass" soundfont I had clearly neglected for too long.
Another Sunday cover, this time putting an acoustic spin on one of my favorite tunes from RPM2010 - Communist Party by the great Sha-Pink. This song marks the first time I've ever used live percussion.
Ever since i heard Cave Street's Creator Protector Destroyer (from their 2010 RPM album) run from that song back into the opening didj of Onion Bell (the first track) i wanted to put the lyrics to that pulsing energy, and today i had time to give…
I was collecting 4th of July samples and recorded a jewel. By chance, I recorded my 4 year old girl, and you can hear her thought process...wondering how the fireworks were so high in the air - perhaps the fireworks were dropping from the sky…

Heheh, the first few trill notes sound like the intro to Cross Eyed Mary.
Great great! Keep up the flautation. Learning an instrument will reward you the rest of your life!
Good to see you back here, James. Great songs as always!
Truly beautiful guitar peace.
Joyfully repetitious. Face melting soloing. Wow!
What a pleasure to wake up to this. Thank ye Doug!
Ah yes, Mahavishnu. I wish they would get back together. Badass playing here, too!
Best of luck with this project. This is wonderful.

This is reaslly good, esp. like the detuned gtr (?) in the middle.
Nice guitar work on this one.
Let's party!
Great stuff, Rick. I like very much the almost classical/rock approach here.
Really? ok
Apparently the theme for RPM10 was PARTY! Lots of party themed songs. Good cover, 17.
Helluva groove!
Just listened to both versions back to back, different treatments of the same theme. Great!
This is very cool. Well done!
