Narrative: A lonely scientist was stationed to Tundzha Glacier in Antarctica to study fissures.

Instrumentation: I stretched, repitched, and looped two sections of a 15 minute piano motif (performed and recorded by Sudara) and built the song around it. There are three tracks of electric guitar played with a violin bow. The rhythm section is mostly comprised of drum programming, but I tried something different and ripped the toms from a breakdown in the track “Tune Up” by The Dell’s Vs. the Dramatics. Also includes: reverse acoustic guitar, bass synth, kalimba, the tail ends of auto-harp strumming (also courtesy of Sudara), and vocals.

This is a great song, conceptually... Shackleton would be proud!

Hi, 'Guest' -- I'd love a piano but for now I'll have to do with Sudara's 15min recording session.

love the piano in this song!!! Are you getting an upright for the studio!?

now your vocals are sort of reminiscent of dose one in the song 'the crow' from subtle's album 'exitingarm'...i swear i don't try to come up with comparisons, but what better way to express an abstract thought than by referencing something concrete that would make more sense anyway? this is pretty awesome.

thanks everyone for all the thoughtful comments, and thanks Su for privileging me with that wonderful piano performance. @ Drakonis: love the pun haha. The 'ebow' part is an actual bow over electric guitar strings, but I wish I had an ebow- they can sound amazing. @ K. Scot Sparks: man you have some amazing sounds and moods, would love to bring some elements together. Hook a brotha up with some stems!

Crunchy slow driving music, almost a claustrophobic feel imparted... the e-bow and intriguing percussion really do stand out as unique elements, and you pull this all together into a very "cool" piece of music.
