Home in Colorado (with the band)

Finally, the finishing touches seem to be put on this three-year-old song thanks to some very talented people.

The band is:
Liam (age 13 at the time of recording) on drums
A Girl Named Sam (she’s no kid!) with the backing vocals
Genevieve (currently 15) with arrangement
Myself singing and playing all the guitars

My answer to John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” (with a little theft from Robert Frost). I wish he was around to hear it (well, I wish John was still around… Robert would be rather old by now).

Home in Colorado

The first time I dropped my lowest string
Was for Rocky Mountain High
Last night I caught a flight
To see the fire in the sky
Where John found twenty-seven
Now I’m turning thirty-five
Standing here this close to heaven
Damn it’s good to be alive
So good to be alive

Felt like he’d been saying
Well it was about time for me to go
And after fifteen years of playing
It sure feels like home in Colorado

What you might find out in the Aspen
You could never know
There are secrets whispered
You can’t hear down below
Let the blue skies wash away
Your promises to keep
Let the (Big) Thompson’s river water
Gently roll you off to sleep
Yeah roll you off to sleep

Felt like he’d been saying
Well it was about time for me to go
And after fifteen years of playing
It sure feels like home in Colorado

I like this one. Simple but well crafted. Nice riff adds interest. Good vocals too.

Good mix, vocals are good, and like the "chunky" guitar and drums. All around good one.

If you would like to hear the voice of one of my vocally talented students, though, come on over and listen to "Take Me North" with Ashley... Now that kid is going to be some singer!

Just to clarify, the drummer is a thirteen year old kid, the person who helped with much of the arrangement is a fifteen year old kid, and the vocals are done by A Girl Named Sam (NOT a kid, but a wonderfully talented fellow RPM'er singer/songwriter here on alonetone.
