MOTHER’S EYES

I used to chide my mother
She saw the loss in every face
The cemetery. The old folks home
along the way

I used to laugh at Mother
She saw the pain in every eye
Now time has passed
and Mom is gone and here am I

And now I see the world thru Mother’s Eyes

I used to follow Mother
on my trike across the yard
Saying, “What is this?
What is that, Mom?”

I used to challenge Mother
If you can tell me now, please do.
Why should I have to wait until I’m as old as you

It’s easy to remember
when I could see the world in Mother’s Eyes
Now that it’s November
I can see the world thru Mother’s Eyes

There was something Mother used to say
that really frustrated me:
She’d say, “Jimmy, some day you will understand.”

Jim and I both loved listening to this beautiful song. Besides enjoying the tight harmony we identified with your mother's words - our mothers also used to say "...some day you will understand."

I really like this song. I don't remember it if have heard it. Maybe just now I understand it. Time presents new perspectives and lessons.

I wrote to my children, my answer. I told the how I watched them thru the window and enjoyed them in ways they never knew. How seeing them learn and succeed at their efforts was such pleasure to me. How discovering who they were by the talents and generosity they exhibited made me happy...The first response I got was from Embyr, now a registered nurse, mother of 4, just said, "Jim, you were mean."

Wonderful song and lovely tight harmonies. I bought a fridge magnet recently, it says, "Oh my God, my mother was right about everything". :) Bethan
