A cover of Iron Angel Forge's song from his 2009 RPM Challenge album, Not Forsaken. He is here at alonetone under the name IronAngel.
I haven't told him yet, though, so it's a surprise ;~)
this is the slightly sparkly version of my version of Moschell's "Boxes and Strings" from his 'Circus of Freaks and Fools' RPM Challenge CD. I recorded it as a video last night and redid it in the studio (unfinished sauna) today.
Written today.
recorded on an iMac with the internal mic and no headphones (!) so it's probably going to be muddy as hell, but that feels about right for now.
LYRIC:
Fill up the glass, Bartender
Ply your art
Quench the fire in here, now…
gotta love a good blues tune!
PS. thanks for the comment on Dubadadidabadu - yeah, the volume on the vocal is way too low - but i never got around to fixing it. The vocal (and a few other choice parts) are actually the work of another recent alonetoner, K. Scot Sparks.

This was the first time I'd fired up my telecaster and amp for a recording and it felt like sitting in Sun Studios or something. Amazing sound after playing just acoustic instruments for a year. It's the first take and I loved it!

A grief song. You know this place. If you don't then move on while you still can. Seriously. Don't click ..
This is a tidied up version, I managed to get rid of some of th noise and rebalance the vocals 18/3/09
Damn. The intro gtr, it's tone, what a great sound. It sounds like an old recording. I like how you left the ambient noise with it. What a great recording.

I had no idea myself - I just got into this morning and started to get the feel of the song and the house was all quiet and then presto - it was done. Now I should get back outside and get the scrap into the trailer like I'm supposed to!

Holy Smokes! I had no idea... heh.
Great Job! It sounds far better than my quick take still dripping from the shower did. Your guitar lines are much prettier as well!
Thanks Gumbo!

I'm wishing someone can go for a ride
I'm wishing, I'm wishing you well
I've got something that's growing inside
I'm hoping, I'm hoping I'm well
we got no backbone
we got no soul
we've got no back-up plan
no one can know
why you go rushing…
I'm wishing someone can go for a ride
I'm wishing, I'm wishing you well
I've got something that's growing inside
I'm hoping, I'm hoping I'm well
we got no backbone
we got no soul
we've got no back-up plan
no one can know
why you go rushing…
Can you hide in happiness
Can you disguise the sadness in your voice
Could you play only major chords
Can you hide in happiness
Choose a part of you to show
And no one around you can know
Just how deep the scars go
Can you hide in…
RPM CHALLENGE 2024.
WEST
I’m always walking backwards looking forwards
Dragged back to the past
You think i’ve got nothing left but for loving you
But babe thats not all I do
I dream when I am not…
RPM 2013
Searching for the words
To let you know
I consider you
A perfect work of art
Studying the curves
And the brush strokes
Every inch is
Easily my favorite part
Trying to be smooth
But you shake my spine
I am coloring outside…
Liner Notes
It was Valentines day so my muse was like 'yeah, you gotta write one'. The first verse popped into my head as I was working in the morning had the lyrics done in about 15 minutes with rough chords and stuff in about 10 more. Recorded…
This is a live recording of a set I did with guitarist Mike Levine on a University of New Hampshire radio show. This is one of the 'songs' we did. It is a 5-tune Irish fiddle set that was previously done by the great Irish fiddle player Martin…
Back to enjoy this once again!
i just got home to find a mandolin on my doorstep ( i ordered it ;-) a bit of a risk but i needed it for RPM).
So it is most fortuitous to remember this magical recording. Hup!
Comments on Gumbo's stuff
I like this. Hoping it turns into something cool. Sounds good so far.

I can dig it. This reminds of so many things. Keep producing.
Very cool. Somebody been to the crossroads.

Good to hear, I mean :D
Love it. The harmonies, the laconic delivery, the hip-hop breaks. Wonderful. Good to you guys again :)
Oh yes! Added to the Piratical Playlist!
"Don't say Nobody. I do" This is so beautiful.
Amen, brother.
Such a propulsive groove! Shake out your cobwebs! PLAY LOUD!!! DANCE!!
Wanton domesticity starts to crack :) This is cool.
Good stuff
Love it! Opens a nice early Elvis Costello vibe, and the American Noir vocal is great.
Nize!
Rockin'
A lovely spacious feel. Puts me in mind of the Stone Roses a bit if they'd been mellower ..
Love it. Trusting your RPM is coming along with some inscrutable inner momentum.
I like this so much more than my version! How you doing these days, dude?
Good stuff!

Bebop eat your heart out! :-)
Nice. A little glimpse into the comings and goings around the house!
I'm digging the poignancy here. Such a beautiful mournful vocal.
That's a groove
