I've been listening to a lot of Meshuggah since the last RPM.

A club-mix of my first electronical production from last year. I tried out some VST-Effects I haven't used before. The name "Kater" is german and can be translated into "hangover" and "male cat", probably i had an hangover when I produced it :)

This was one of the two songs I wrote ahead of time to get a jump on RPM.

I woke up with this in my head, including the first line of the lyrics. If you dream it, you must record it, that's my rule.

This was another song I wrote ahead of time. I end up enjoying these the least, but it gives me something to record on February 1st.

I've been told that the lyrics are a bit "creepy". I guess I should note that my songs are NOT autobiographical!

Keith Landry used his considerable vocal talents on this song, and he made a decent song sound great. I added one or two harmonies, but the lead vocals are his. I think he did a great job. What do you think?

Yet another from the basement.
I believe this is a short, slowed down version of a faster, older Prozac song. Lots of hiss, and I wish it was longer, but I do particularly like this.

My version of this classic guitar instrumental. It was cool to learn that radio stations banned this back in the day since they thought it was too raunchy and violent, even though it didn't have any lyrics.

This is an improvised 'piece'. We did quite a bit of improvising, taping the sessions, then sitting in the bedroom listening to the tapes and talking about what we liked, then next time everyone would come with ideas and we would work on things…

something of a fail was this, as I tried to create soft music and it of course was syfy-ish in the end :(.. but good none the less and I do like it.

This seems a lot quieter than the rest of the album. Whoops. I mixed the whole thing in one 6 hour shot to meet the RPM deadline. Also, I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to mixing.
Anyway, I like this tune. And it's a good example…

Another one that sounds a bit thin without lyrics/vocals. Meh.
And, yes, I know the rhythm section drops the beat on the last chorus. It's the first take for the bass and drums. I was in a hurry. 'Tis the nature of RPM.

After writing these lyrics years ago I realized how embarrassingly passive-aggressive and entitled they sounded. But there were a few nice turns of phrase I didn't want to lose, so I decided to just own up to it, hence the subtitle.

Just a brief coda to the album. The guitar is in an open tuning (Open D or open G, I forget which) and the percussion is just me slapping my lap.

Originally conceived as a hypothetical dialog between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini. Then mutated into, y'know, a pop song.

This might be my current favorite track on the album.

I was consciously trying to do minimalist arrangements on this album. I suppose I must have felt that two guitars and a bass were necessary here.
The backing vocals came out pretty good on this one. And there's some nifty bass on verse 2.
