Pass On Love

Another oldie but goodie (again, apologies for the few seconds of silence it takes to get to the intro). This song is the first that I really tried to record properly, written around Christmastime four or five years ago with my seventh grade students and my own children in mind… We all worry about the curriculum and the books and the state assessment tests, but there are some lessons that are simply more important.

Falling off the fence in year twelve of your lifetime
Landing hard will change your view of time
The minutes left in life will count down slowly
I need to use those minutes while they’re still mine
It’s time to see that there’s not much time left
Time to find the road that you’ll take
Time to listen to the child inside you
Time to choose the world you’ll make

You start seeing bigger pictures when your kids start walking
You start asking bigger questions when you turn thirty-four
The minutes left in life will count down slowly
I start to wonder am I supposed to be more
Will you be the one to make one life better
Will you choose to push when you take a shove
Will you find the time to give help when it’s needed
Will you pass on hate or will you pass on love

Christmastime, so many children
Planting seeds one row at a time
Will they grow to feed their children
Will they keep an open mind

Ah, my critical teenage piano player. Well, the music wouldn't get better if not for the constructive (or at times just needling) criticism!... And her suggestions are usually pretty accurate which is why I tend to defer to her on musical arrangements.

Yeah a little piano single-note melody would sound great. i tried it out. I just went along and stayed in the same range you did (basically) and i think that would fill up this song. You might be able to do it with a base guitar too...if it was soft enough you got me analyzing and fixing your problems :P

Wow look at you getting fancy with your guitar melody!! And hey!! look at that, no more monotone!! much better. Though, there is something missing...I think a single note piano melody would fill up the whole there.

Thank you very much. I just do what i do. I love music, and yours rocks. I like your music because acoustic is my first love. My father played acoustic guitar as a singer songwriter with my mother for over 30 years. So acoustic is my first an only love. I have GREAT respect for it. If you ever want to collaborat on anything be sure to let me know. I play out of a simple studio, in a trailer park in New Mexico. Also, i had to show "take me North" to my wife, we head north to the mountians every weekend to go camping so it is the perfect song for us. Nice to meet you, and keep playing the great music that you make.

Haha, I read that as 'Pass on Love', as in 'Love? I'll pass.' Anyway! Lovely song, affectionately performed, as ever, Mr L!

Again, apologies for the silence before this song gets going as well as for the inconsistent vocals... I hope the message overrides any lack of ability with respect to the song's execution.

Saved!
