This is the 18th song in my album, Edolian, where I sequentially make a song in ever EDO from 1 to 31.
18EDO has a bit of a reputation for being a bit shit. It has practically 0 good intervals, and as such western harmony doesn’t work the greatest in it. My interpretation here was to divide it into two 9EDO scales, then go between them. I used 7/8 as the time signature in this piece, so 4 of those beats where in the first 9EDO scale, while the next 3 were in the second 9EDO scale (one half step up.) It creates a pretty disorienting sound, and I kind of like the aesthetic that it gives.
This is the part where I talk about my plans for the next song, which happens to be 19EDO. 19EDO is a really good temperament, and is one of the widely accepted alternatives for typical 12EDO. It’s effectively 12EDO with a lot more variety. I’m not sure what I’m gonna do for it yet, as the opportunities in 19EDO are effectively limitless, so I guess we’ll see when I sit down and make the song.
