Desertification_(23EDO)
This is the 23rd track in my album, Edolian, where I make a song in every EDO from 1 to 31.
I didn’t really know what to do with this track when I started. Like the last track, I went to xen.wiki and went through MOS scales until I found one I liked. In this case, it was palestine[11]. I made a major-ish scale in it, but I didn’t really like how it sounded, so I flatted the 3rd and the 7th, which created a minor scale that is kinda like harmonic minor like the last track, but it has a bit of a different feel. I’d guess I’d call this scale “Psuedomajor” because if you try to construct a major scale in 18EDO you’d get something that sounds similar to what I got here. The time signature is 17/8, divided into 3 3 2 2 2 5. I might do something in just normal 4/4 time in the next track, as I want to try something different, because most of the tracks in this album so far have used a nonstandard time signature.
So, about the next track, it will be 24EDO, which is known by it’s more common name: Quarter tones. If you don’t know, quarter tones are steps inbetween half steps, hence quarter. 24EDO is effectively 12EDO with more depth added to it, and as such I’ll mostly be using typical theories of harmony for that, with a quarter-tone twist. It’s an interesting place where typical theories of harmony and xenharmonic theories of harmony collide.
