Outwards_(24EDO)

This is the 24th song in my album, Edolian, where I sequentially make a song in every EDO from 1 to 31.

24EDO is also known as the quarter-tone tuning, as it is the normal 12 notes in western european music, however we split the half step in half to create quarter tones (which shouldn’t it be called quarter steps to be consistent?), regardless it meshes together more traditional harmony with xenharmonic harmony. In this piece specifically, I used chords that resolved a tritone outwards instead of inwards, to create a perfect fifth instead of a major third (hence the name of the song). It creates a bit of an alien feel, and I really like that. For the melody, I used a bit of chromaticism. With the chord progression I made I could’ve definitely done a more interesting melody, but to be honest, 24EDO is not the most interesting of tunings, so I don’t think I should spend too much effort on it. Talking about low effort, this song is also in typical 4/4 time, which is unusual for my songs.

Next song will be 25EDO, which according to xen.wiki is a really good approximation for blackwood temperament, so my next track is most likely going to be in blackwood. I haven’t really explored blackwood that much and honestly I don’t know much about it, so that’s going to be interesting.
